manipulation

This is a cover of the Blender magazine. The cover lady of the issue is pop star - Britney Spears, but ridiculously, the photo is a composite one : the perfect body figure is not from Britney's but a model! AND the  magazine itself even makes a claim that “Truthiness Alert: This cover image is a composite photo. Britney did not pose for this picture. That, sadly, is not her body.” (see the lower left of the cover page!!!)

The subject of the image is Britney Spears, who is almost naked but just with a towel covering her private parts of the body. Clearly enough, the photographer tried to create a quite seductive and sexy effects for the shoot. Plus, there are empty red-bull and cigarette (mickey mouse hat as cigarette-case) on the bed. The photographer tried to lead us into thinking that Britney is an excessive smoker and she is under massive pressure from family, career etc.

The photo has been manipulated by cutting and pasting. Britney's head was composited over a model's body. With this, people may believe that Britney is gorgeous in her perfect body shape if they are not aware of the small word. The manipulating is done because the editor of the magazine wants to boost the sales volume and attract more people to buy this magazine using an attractive public fihure. Or else, Britney's original body is not fit enough ...... There're just too many possibilities. Yet, i believe the Blender magazine itself edited the picture for their own sake.

To me, manipulation is not totally a bad idea as it can show one's creativity. However, it should not be put in use of policy, news etc, in which would pose harm to people, distort the true meaning and deceive the public.
